Meet the Team
Ross Wilson- Chief Event Simplifier
The Big Cheese. (Aka a slick, intuitive guy who you WANT to talk to, and DREAM up any kind of event with.)
Ross started urbantonic out of his Varsity room 15 years ago and his passion for excellence, die hard devotedness to his clients and ‘raise the bar every time’ reputation has brought urbantonic to where it is today. His faith and his family make life count, and the valuable people he works with at urbantonic reveal just how intentional he is about leadership and making a positive impact as an entrepreneur in South Africa. Matching courage with hard work is what makes Ross tick!
In a word, Ross is DYNAMIC.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
AK Mitchell- General Event Simplifier
The guy you want to take with you into battle. The heart and soul of the business. AK can execute events in his sleep. Sometimes he even has to! Straight from a post grad at UCT, it’s been 12 years in the game and who’s counting. This is the air he breathes…and it’s good. Whether he’s 4x4ing in the Kalahari, trekking in Rwanda, sailing in Zanzibar, or visiting 3 new event location sites in one morning, AK is like his name: Attitude is King. If you want it, he can get it.
In a word AK is SOLID.
Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way.
Grant Clark- Events & Beverage Simplifier
For six years now, Grant has been the numero uno project manager making things happen at urbantonic. With the same prowess he shows on the hockey field, whether he’s playing for the country or the club, Grant will play any position ‘on site’ to get an event off the ground. Service delivery is his top game and an 8 day work week is just a walk in the park to keep his clients happy…it also helps that the ‘unofficial’ boys club at urbantonic makes those long weeks a little more bearable! That, and a wicked sense of humour keep Grant always hungry for more adventure…and urbantonic delivers all of that and more.
In a word: Grant is ENERGISING
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
Jacques ‘Lofty’ Loftus- Operations and Event Simplifier
You could say he is almost part of the furniture by now, not because 4 years is a long time to work somewhere, but because that’s Lofty’s speciality…he’s the guy that pulls off events with 900 seated guests and if one chair is missing, his problem! Hats off to the fact that he is the most easygoing guy at the office, with a charm and humour that clearly keep him ahead of the game. This is the most intricate of urbantonic roles…it’s time management on steroids, and all kinds of people management! To get the job done in season, he may not sleep for 36 hours but it separates the men from the boys. Something he is quite used to on the rugby field, playing flank for his local club Villagers…
“We pulled that off!” Looking back, and seeing the result of yet another beautifully executed urbantonic event, that’s the reward for the intensity of Lofty’s job.
In a word, Lofty is COOL&COLLECTED
Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.
Warren Sargeant- Assistant Operations Simplifier
“There are three types of workers: those who get things done, those who watch things get done, and those who wonder how so much got done.” – (unknown)
Warren is in the first category…he only joined the team in 2013, but he’s hit the ground running, a lot like the wing or fullback position he plays in rugby. This guy is FULL ON more like it! He is responsible for keeping the warehouse team in tiptop shape, stocking up on everything you can imagine for an event, and accounting for it – no easy task. The friendly vibe at urbantonic makes it worth the challenge he says. Warren’s approach to handle the pressure – he’s the first to arrive at a party and the last to leave! His motto – keep things light, play hard and life’s a breeze!
In a word, Warren is VIBRANT
“There are three types of workers: those who get things done, those who watch things get done, and those who wonder how so much got done.”
Leigh McPherson- Office Simplifier
You might also call Leigh the office juggler, but since she waitressed for urbantonic for 6 years before managing the office, she’s done her time and she is not clowning around! From HR, to PR and any kind of admin, Leigh adds value with her quiet presence, warmth and flexible approach. Without Leigh things just would not work! She’s a Jill of all trades you might say – and a brilliant one at that! Happy to roll up her sleeves and get ‘on site’ too, Leigh feels her job is worth all the long hours and deadline stress because at urbantonic, they know when to work and when to play!
In a word, Leigh is MULTITALENTED
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.
Natalie Bruce- Staffing Simplifier
Whether she’s training staff, supervising events or quoting clients, Natalie does it all with the flair and finesse that places her in a league of her own. People skills deluxe, her trademark red nails and ‘light up the room’ smile make Natalie a favourite amoung her colleagues – a woman who balances work with a passion for living life to the full. And speaking of passion, scuba diving is Natalie’s ultimate escape. ‘Bliss seeker’ has found home at urbantonic…bringing surreal joy to the day to day…
In a word, Natalie is GRACIOUS
If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude.
Sandi Ellam- Chief Accounts Simplifier
Sandi thrives on a challenge and being the head of the urbantonic accounts department for 4 years now, her job is by no means mundane – every day is as different as the parties that urbantonic throws! She wakes up excited to come to work and leaves satisfied that she’s given it her all. She thrives on the interaction with her young colleagues in the accounts department and loves how they all shoulder burdens for one another. If she could be anywhere else right now, it would be at a Parlotones concert. Supporting local music is her passion…as well as trying to keep up with her two globetrotting daughters!
In a word, Sandi is LIGHTHEARTED
A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.
Feroza Saban- Accounts Simplifier
For Feroza, work is home away from home; a relaxed and fun place to be – where you put your heads down for the results, and lift your hearts up in unity for a greater mission…upholding the values of urbantonic culture in always trying to help each other. The supportive staff members are what make Feroza’s job a joy and the diversity of work, a thrill. An avid movie goer and outdoor lover, Feroza is a resilient strength within the urbantonic family. Her future plans lie in her absolute hope to visit Israel one day with her future husband. And we know with her committed spirit, she will get there!
In a word, Feroza is WISE
The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.
Moosa Habyarimana- Warehouse and Driving Simplifier
The guy with the beautiful face and a bodybuilder’s frame – but Moosa is more than meets the eye. Since 2007, a normal day at the office could mean loading up a few 8tonne trucks, and together with his amazingly dedicated team, they are the last to offload well into the evening. His honesty, integrity and faithfulness have made Moosa an integral part of the urbantonic team for 6 years now…but his humility in this vital role is what is most intriguing. When he’s not flexing his impressive muscles at work, Moosa enjoys relaxing with his wife and watching TV series…boy does he deserve it!
In a word, Moosa is STRONG
Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.
Noleen Pretorius- Assistant Accounts Simplifier
This young lady has her mind made up – to throw herself into her first bookkeeping job with concentration and energy, knowing the sky is the limit for someone with their whole future before them. Noleen loves her new role in the accounts department because her team of ladies, Sandi and Feroza, are both incredibly kind and work so professionally. When she’s not driving the deadlines at urbantonic, Noleen loves shopping, movies, and most of all, spending time with Nathan, her 5 year old son.
In a word, Noleen is DEDICATED
I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself.
Ashley Fletcher AKA The Captain- Construction Simplifier
For 4 years, Ashley has been responsible for the construction work at urbantonic. which is no small feat considering the massive scale and variety of constructs needed to suit each client . He has earned his name THE CAPTAIN for being one step ahead of the rest. And he is the ‘go to’ man for deliveries, collections and whatever is needed ‘on site’ for functions. It goes without saying, Ashley is of CORE importance to the business. His funniest moment was the day he took his cap off for the first time and nobody recognised him! What matters most to him is spending time with family.
In a word, Ashley is INFLUENTIAL
Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.
Angie January- Washbay Simplifier
Angie has been of integral value to the well-oiled machine that is urbantonic for 4 years now. She supervises all the temporary staff who arrive for season to wash, scrub, iron, bubble wrap and polish everything in sight at urbantonic! It is no simple task keeping everyone in sync, and motivated to accomplish all they need to do in a day. For Angie, it is a challenge she relishes! And with colleagues like Monica to share faith and friendship with, it is even a privilege.
In a word, Angie is BRIGHT
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
